Botanical Medicine

This is Plant Medicine – Nature’s original Cure! These concentrated botanicals come in capsules, where they are dried and tested for quality, content, and possible contaminants. Dr. Megan also uses liquid Botanical Tincures.  These are liquids made from soaking the medicinal part of a plant in a specific ratio of alcohol and water for a prescribed amount of time. This allows maximal extraction of active constituents. These may be the leaves, stems, seeds, flowers, or roots of the plant.  For example, for crataegus (the hawthorne tree) the red berries are used, and often the little pink flowers and leaves too. For hypericum (St. johns wort) the leaves and yellow flowers are used. Plants are brought in from around the world, relying on varying climates to raise the healthiest herbs. For example, the piper mythisticum (kava kava) comes from Fiji, and the mentha pipirita (mint) comes from Egypt. You could get the taraxacum (dandelion) from your back yard, but you will experience variations in strength, and you will want to give it a good rinse. One can enjoy the tinctures in a small amount of water, tea, or with honey. Some like to feel the full effects fast by squirting it right in the mouth.  The strong tastes come from the strength of the medicine. Adding it to hot water evaporates the small amount of alcohol that keeps them potent.
